Operating Instructions for STM-Ⅳ(B)Stormer Viscometer

  One,overview:

STM-IV(B)Stormer Viscometer is a new generation of testing instrument developed by our company in Stormer,which is used to measure the viscosity of paint and other coatings expressed by KU value,cP(centipoise)and G(gram).This instrument uses a backlight LCD display.The stirring blade(also called rotor)controlled by a computer microcomputer system is driven by a constant speed motor to rotate at a speed of 200r/min.The resistance moment of the stirring blade rotating in the tested sample is converted by the computer into KU value(Krebs unit(KU)a logarithmic function of the load required to generate a rotation speed of 200r/min,which is generally used to represent the viscosity for brush coating and roll coating),cP(centipoise)and the corresponding load value(unit:G).The operator only needs to put the stirring blade into the measured sample to a specified depth(i.e.the liquid level of the measured sample is consistent with the marking line of the stirring blade),and KU value,mpa.s(millipoise),G(gram),room temperature and measured fluid temperature representing the viscosity of the measured sample can be simultaneously displayed on the LCD screen of the instrument.The operation of the instrument is simpler and more convenient,and the data is stable and reliable.There is no need to replace the rotor in the whole measuring range(the rotor is the main component connecting the sensor,and the installation does not take into consideration the influence on the measuring accuracy).The design basis of this instrument is ASTM-D562 standard and GB9269-88 standard,and the product reaches the domestic advanced level.

1.It has humanized and personalized design and can synchronously display temperature and viscosity values.

2.Ku,cP and gram units can be switched freely.

3.Easy to use,does not need weights and pulleys,simplifies testing procedures.

4.The structure design of manual lifting frame reduces the requirement of liquid level control.

5.The full scale and linearity of each gear of the instrument are all calibrated through PC interface.Its metering performance and function reach the advanced level of the same type in China.

6.High subdivision drive of stepping motor with 16-bit microcomputer processor as core,digital LCD with blue backlight function.

7.According to needs,standard substances of the Metrology Bureau can be selected and purchased to correct the viscometer so as to make the inspection level conform to international standards.

 Three,The test environment:

1.The instrument shall be placed on a firm and flat table far away from interference of strong air current,strong magnetic field,strong electric field and strong electric pulse.

2.In order to ensure the safety of the operator,the power socket in the laboratory should be reliably grounded.

3.The temperature in the laboratory shall be 23℃2℃,and the relative humidity shall not be more than 75%.

4.The sample temperature shall be 23℃0.2℃.

Four,operation and use:

1.Take the instrument out of the packaging box and place it on the workbench;

2.Take out the stirring blade from the packaging box,insert it into the sleeve of the rotating shaft,and fix it with the jacking screw.Note that the jacking screw should be propped on the flat opening of the stirring blade.

3.Plug in the power plug,turn on the power switch at the back,and the system starts self-checking.After self-checking,the system enters the standby state.

4.Place the sample to be tested into the container provided by the instrument,with the liquid level about 10mm from the container mouth;

5.Place the container of the sample to be tested on the container seat and select the measurement unit(“KU”means KU value of the sample to be tested is displayed,and”gm”means load value is displayed).Press down the lifting handle,immerse the stirring paddle into the sample to be tested,the marking line on the shaft of the stirring paddle is flush with the liquid level,and the instrument automatically starts to operate;

6.After a few seconds,the display will display the viscosity value of the sample to be tested,and the reading can be made at this time.(The tested sample must be stirred for several seconds to reach dynamic equilibrium,and the data displayed at this time can be considered accurate.)

7.After the measurement is completed,lift the lifting handle to a high position.There is a limit element device near the highest position,which can keep the instrument at this position all the time.The instrument stops rotating and enters the standby state again.

8.The instrument has a built-in intelligent display stabilizing program,which makes the reading of each measurement stable and easy for the operator to read.

 Five,matters needing attention:

1.There are precision measuring parts in the instrument cabinet,which should be handled with care.

2.This instrument is a special instrument.Please do not open the shell of the instrument by yourself,so as not to affect the accuracy of measurement.

3.When the instrument is not in use for the time being,the lifting handle of the instrument should be kept on the high-level limiting element device,and should not be kept in a lower position,otherwise the lifting is not flexible.

4.Every year,you should come to the company regularly for inspection,or send it to the relevant metrological supervision department for inspection.
